چکیده

Introduction Human cadaver kidneys are usually transplanted to the iliac fossa. The donor renal artery is anastomosed either end-to-end to the recipient internal iliac artery or, especially if there is more than one renal artery, an aortic patch from the donor vessel is sutured end-to-side to the recipient external iliac artery. If this patch method is used and the kidney rejects, the kidney is removed by ligating and dividing the donor artery and vein leaving the donor patch behind. Rarely, the residual patch may be weakened, by infection at the suture line or by rejection. Two cases of major bleeding from such a cause are reported here.

External iliac vein – transplant ureteral fistula combined with renal cell carcinoma: an unusual case of hematuria

Iliac vein-ureteral fistula is a rare cause of hematuria. The diagnosis of an iliac vein-ureteral fistula can be elusive even with the use of multiple methods. With regards to the treatment, there appears to be a shift in management from primarily open surgical to primarily angiographic management. We present a unique case of an external iliac vein - transplant ureteral fistula. A 48 year-old f...

A human cadaver model for laparoscopic kidney transplant.

OBJECTIVES To evaluate the technique of laparoscopic kidney transplant and demonstrate the feasibility of this procedure by an extraperitoneal approach. MATERIALS AND METHODS The procedure was performed on 2 human cadavers. Retroperitoneal endoscopic left nephrectomy was performed. An extraperitoneal space was established by inflation of a balloon dilator. The external iliac artery and vein w...

Arterioenteric fistula on a kidney graft site. A rare cause of massive lower gastrointestinal bleeding.

Arterioenteric fistula (AEF) on a kidney graft site is a rare cause of massive lower gastrointestinal bleeding (LGIB). Emergency angiography with concomitant endovascular repair is an efficient and safe approach in controlling the acute bleeding and stabilizing patients with life-threatening bleeding from AEF. We report a 42-year-old male who underwent allograft renal transplantation in the rig...

Spontaneous mycotic external iliac artery aneurysm rupture after perforated acute appendicitis in a renal allograft recipient.

Acute appendicitis is uncommon after renal transplant. Infection with Candida albicans can produce serious complications by compromising the vascular anastomosis. In such cases, the origin of Candida albicans is often in the gastrointestinal system. Here, we report 2 uncommon complications that occurred in the same patient. A 27-year-old female renal transplant patient with appendicitis present...

External iliac artery pseudoaneurysm complicating renal transplantation.

OBJECTIVES To assess the etiology, management and outcome of iliac pseudoaneurysms following renal transplantation. METHODS Eleven patients who underwent repair between 1982 and 2007 were identified. Five (Group 1) presented pseudoaneurysm at the anastomosis of the donor renal and native iliac arteries, and six (Group 2) presented iliac pseudoaneurysm following transplant nephrectomy. Intraop...
